The College advises that educational credits can only be awarded for seminars that are pre-approved by NACOR or the College. Members attending seminars and courses that are not sponsored by the college are advised to contact us, prior to attending, in order to have the seminar or course considered for Continuing Education Credits. Only those courses and seminars of educational value can be accredited.
Sending in attendance forms from seminars that are non-accredited or pre-approved does not meet the requirements of the regulations and the college will not be able to accept these credits as part of a member’s licensing requirements. The requirements of Continuing Education Credits have changed with the new legislation.
The regulations under renewal and registration read:
(6) Seminars in continuing education or ophthalmic practices that are provided by institutions not sponsored by the council must be pre-approved by the council in order to qualify as educational credits for Licensing purposes as required by subsections 5(2) and 5(3) of the bylaws.
(7) Forms prescribed by the council are to be provided on which the sponsoring organization can testify to the attendance of an applicant at seminars described in subsections 5(2) and 5(3) of the bylaws.
(8) Members attending a seminar sponsored by the council or other approved organization are to be awarded credits up to a maximum of three credits towards fulfilling the educational requirements required by subsections 5(2) and 5(3) of the bylaws.
