Continuing Education

All licensed members with the SCO are required to complete the continuing education requirements set out in the Regulations.

Each year at licence renewal, we take into consideration the credits you have accumulated over the previous three years.

Please note you are required to have fulfilled your continuing education requirements by December 31, of the year leading up to licence renewal, i.e renewals for 2025 will include any education received January 1, 2022, and up to December 31, 2024.


Licence Renewal 2024:
Credits from years: 2022  2023  2024
Total Credits Required:

Licensed Optician: 10 Credits
Licensed Contact Lens Practitioner: 15 Credits

Credit Category:

Licensed Optician: Minimum 8 EG Credits
Licensed Contact Lens Practitioner: Minimum 5 EG & 5 CL


Please make sure you have the right amount of credits before submitting your licence renewal as members cannot be licensed unless their credits are up to date. You can check your continuing education credits online anytime by logging in through our website. If you have misplaced your User ID and password, please call the office.

Continuing education credits can only be awarded to seminars that are pre-approved by NACOR or the College.

For more information on the pre-approval process click here. Kindly send the SCO Accreditation form, prior to attending a non-accredited seminar for approval by the Quality Assurance Committee.
